Wike Cautions Against Abuja Turning Into Boko Haram Stronghold

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has cautioned against the possibility of Abuja becoming a Boko Haram stronghold in response to Senator Ali Ndume’s proposal to establish an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp within the FCT.

Wike expressed concerns that the FCT currently lacks the capacity to manage such a camp securely, warning that hosting IDPs linked to Boko Haram could potentially facilitate insurgent activities in Abuja.

GALAXY TV reports that this warning was given in the context of the FCT's 2025 budget defense, where Wike sought approval for a N1.78 trillion budget focused on capital projects and infrastructure, with less emphasis on social welfare programs for vulnerable groups.

Wike’s caution reflects broader security challenges in the region, as Boko Haram insurgent attacks have been increasing in Nigeria, particularly in the northeast.
